We are seeking an IP Legal Counsel or Senior IP Legal Counsel to join our IP Legal Team in Espoo. Metso IP Legal is part of Metso’s Legal and Compliance function. We provide IP legal expertise and support in all intellectual property-related matters. We collaborate with our internal business partners, such as the teams of innovation, R&D and technology, IP management, IT security, marketing and brand. This position is mainly located in Espoo, but we are happy to offer flexible working arrangements, including hybrid options.

What you’ll do

• Helping create and update our global IP, tradesecret, data and-related policies and guidelines, and advising on their implementation in complex and rapidly developing digital business environment.
• Working with our different teams to investigate alleged IP infringements and protect our intellectual assets.
• Supporting negotiations and resolving disputes involving complex intellectual property issues in various parts of the world
• Providing legal guidance and support in managing our corporate trademarks and brand portfolio
• Assisting in the development and drafting of IP agreements templates and T&Cs  and related trainings
• Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating agreements for collaborations with universities, research institutes, and publicly funded innovation projects
• Participating in R&D and innovation ecosystem risk review process
• Managing IP-related matters in mergers, acquisitions, and corporate restructurings, including transferring IP portfolios

Who you are

• Master’s degree in law, certificates and qualifications related to Intellectual Property, Data & Technology are an advantage.
• 7+ years of experience in a law firm, international corporation, or consultancy firm
• Excellent understanding and strategic approach to IP law, including patent, trademark, copyright and related rapidly developing regulation frameworks in digital business environment
• Excellent understanding of unfair competition, marketing law, employee inventions, tradesecrets and commercial IP agreements
• Experience in brand and trademark protection in the global context
• Experience in IP Dispute resolution and settlements in a multijurisdictional context
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with all levels of the organization
• Ability to explain and visualise complex legal concepts in a business context with a practical approach to problems
• Flexible, independent, and high-ambition mindset
• Fluent oral and written communication skills in English
• Ability to travel internationally
