Hannes Snellman is a law firm with 250 outstanding professionals based in Finland. We advise leading international and local corporations across all business sectors. Our employees have different backgrounds and personalities, but we all share the same values: a commitment to provide high-quality services and a passion for what we do. With us you will be part of the team from day one.

We are currently looking for associate trainees for the summer of 2026. This position would suit someone who is in the final years of their studies, wishes to gain experience of working in an international environment, and is eager to put their skills into practice.

“From day one, I felt like a valued part of the team. The combination of a truly supportive atmosphere and the opportunity to work alongside skilled lawyers made each day both inspiring and rewarding. As my skills grew, so did the responsibility entrusted to me, which enabled significant progress in my legal skills, confidence, and perspective during the traineeship.” – Associate Trainee, summer 2025

Job Description and Responsibilities

You will be working full time as part of one of our business area groups (Competition & RegulatoryDispute ResolutionEmploymentFinanceIP & TechnologyM&AReal Assets, or Tax) alongside experienced lawyers and legal assistants for a fixed period of four months. As an associate trainee, you will experience what it would be like to work as a newly qualified associate lawyer at Hannes Snellman, as the work descriptions of the two are quite similar. Your duties will include:

  • carrying out research
  • gathering information
  • drafting, commenting, and reviewing legal documents
  • doing translations
  • dealing with authorities
  • writing news, case summaries, and blog posts

Skills and Requirements

As this is a trainee position, we do not expect you to know everything, but to ensure that you will be able to succeed in your duties, we do require:

  • at least 150 study credits before applying
  • genuine interest in business law
  • fluency in Finnish and English
  • attention to detail
  • ability to take initiative
  • good interpersonal skills

Most of all, we value positive attitude and willingness to learn.

What Is in It For You?

At Hannes Snellman, we cherish a sense of community, and we will do our best to make you feel part of the team from day one. On your first day, you will be assigned a tutor who will support you throughout your traineeship, and before diving into your duties, you will participate in a comprehensive orientation. Our trainees also have the chance to get together in a more informal setting when we organise traditional trainee evenings or other fun events. As we are determined to maximise your learning experience as a trainee, you will receive regular feedback and have the opportunity to attend our HS Academy lectures and mentoring breakfasts on a variety of topics. We also offer you good benefits (lunch and recreation benefit, and a ticket for public transport) and a competitive salary.

Hannes Snellman x Nordea

We also have a very special traineeship available, as one or more of our associate trainees will get to go on a one-month internship to Nordea after their traineeship with us. The internship at Nordea will offer an excellent opportunity to see what it is like to work as an in-house lawyer in the biggest bank of the Nordic countries.
