What we offer

  • An open culture where everyone respects everyone.
  • The opportunity to work across practice areas, especially as a trainee and Associate.
  • Tutoring for trainees and mentoring for permanent employees.
  • The opportunity to work with high-end cases.
  • The possibility to bring out your entrepreneurial mindset and have an impact on our culture.

Traineeships

We recruit law students year-round and welcome applications from first year to final stage students. We strive to provide our trainees with a traineeship that takes into consideration their own circumstances and preferences instead of participation in a formal trainee program tied to specific times of the year. To enable our trainees becoming genuine team members in the day-to-day project work, we encourage full-time traineeships.

Trainee positions

What kind of experience do you expect from trainee candidates?
Prior work experience is a plus but not an absolute requirement. International experience – through studies, work or volunteering – is also an advantage.

Required or favored languages?
We expect all of our applicants to have good language skills, both oral and written. Excellent English and Finnish skills are essential, and Swedish skills are a plus.

What kind of value do you put on grades?
Good grades often reflect ambition, diligence and eagerness to learn which are all qualities we look for in our team members. Hence, we do value good grades in our recruitment process but we always consider each application and applicant as a whole.

What else do you value in an employee?
We look for genuine team players equipped with an entrepreneurial spirit, a can-do attitude and a good work ethic. Our ideal candidate would be a solution-oriented and ambitious person who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment with colleagues who are leaders in their respective fields. We hope that you genuinely want to work with different people and get to know us.

Employment
Students are employed for a fixed-term.

Our benefits include (but are not limited to) lunch and recreational benefit, broad occupational healthcare and diverse events.

Our compensation level follows the recommendations of the Association of Finnish Lawyers.

Recruitment
Instead of hiring resources, we seek for colleagues who share our values, enjoy our culture and truly want to be part of our team. We therefore do not have formal trainee programs or application periods. Instead, we accept applications throughout the year and process each application individually. The timing and length of each traineeship is agreed upon with the trainee candidate.

We recruit around 20 trainees annually and we have around 4 – 8 trainees at Avance simultaneously.

How to apply
If you are interested in applying for a trainee position, please send your application (together with your CV, graduate diploma where applicable, transcript of studies, matriculation examination certificate and high school diploma) through our Careers site.

Associates and Senior Associates

What kind of experience do you expect from associate candidates?
We don’t have one profile we are looking for but look at the whole picture instead. If you are a newly graduate lawyer, it is beneficial if you already have some experience from a law firm (e.g. traineeships).

Required or favored languages?
We expect all of our applicants to have good language skills, both oral and written. Excellent English and Finnish skills are essential, and Swedish skills are a plus.

Recruitment process

To attract the right kind of talent and to improve the candidate experience, we have defined a recruitment process that aims to keep candidates informed and engaged throughout the process:

  1. Application and resume. Everything starts with us receiving your application.
Assessment and application review. We carefully go through all applications and strive to get back to you as soon as possible.
  2. Interview process. If we proceed to the interview stage, you will meet a few colleagues from Avance at a time.
  3. It is important that both you and we agree on proceeding in the recruitment process. There are usually 2 – 3 rounds of interviews in total. For us it is important that many of your potential future colleagues meet you and we also want to give you the opportunity to meet many people from Avance to gain a complete picture of us.
  4. Reference check. We often call your reference contacts before making the final decision of recruitment (permanent positions).
  5. Job offer and onboarding process. If everything goes well, we will make you an offer and hope that we can start a journey together!
