Legal Counsel / Data Protection Officer – Fixed-term maternity leave cover

We are looking for a Legal Counsel / Data Protection Officer to join our Legal team!

This is a broad and varied legal role with a primary focus on commercial legal work, complemented by privacy and data protection responsibilities. You will work closely with our business and other stakeholders in Finland and internationally, providing practical and business-oriented legal advice in an ICT environment.

You will join an experienced and collaborative Legal team and have the opportunity to work with a broad range of legal matters in an international ICT environment. The role provides a combination of independent responsibility and close cooperation with legal, privacy, security and business professionals in Finland and internationally.

This is a 12-month fixed-term maternity leave cover, with a preferred start date as soon as possible.

Privacy and Data Protection responsibilities

Approximately half of the role focuses on privacy and data protection. You will act as Data Protection Officer (DPO) for Finland and Poland and work closely with our Global Privacy team and relevant stakeholders across the organisation.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • advising the business on GDPR and other privacy and data protection requirements
  • supporting and reviewing privacy assessments, documentation and data protection processes
  • advising on data protection matters in customer and supplier arrangements
  • monitoring and supporting compliance with applicable data protection requirements
  • supporting the handling of data breaches and other privacy-related matters
  • contributing to the continuous development of privacy governance, processes and ways of working; and
  • cooperating with Legal, Security, HR, business teams and the Global Privacy team

Legal Counsel responsibilities

The other half of the role consists of broad commercial legal work, with a particular focus on ICT contracting. You will support the business throughout the contractual lifecycle and work closely with sales, delivery and other business teams.

Your responsibilities will include:

supporting ICT-related tenders and RFP processes
drafting, reviewing and negotiating customer and supplier agreements
assessing contractual and commercial risks and providing practical legal advice during negotiations
drafting and reviewing contractual provisions and other legal documentation
supporting the organisation in compliance and ethics matters, including internal investigations and whistleblowing cases;
handling smaller disputes, claims and contractual disagreements and coordinating with external counsel where appropriate
contributing to the Legal team’s day-to-day work and development of legal practices and ways of working.

What we are looking for

You have a Master of Laws degree (OTM) and previous experience in commercial legal work, particularly ICT/IT contracts and contract negotiations. As the role includes DPO responsibilities, you should also have a good understanding of GDPR and data protection law and be comfortable advising the business on privacy matters.

We also value:

  • experience in privacy and data protection matters
  • CIPP/E certification or another relevant privacy qualification, which is considered an advantage
  • a practical, service-minded and business-oriented approach to legal advice
  • ability to work independently, prioritise and manage a varied workload
  • strong communication and collaboration skills
  • experience working in an international organisation or environment; and
  • fluency in Finnish and English, both written and spoken.
