Our Employment team in Helsinki is looking for a new colleague to join our growing practice. In this role, you will advise Finnish and international clients on a broad range of employment law matters in a changing business environment. We are looking for an active, commercially minded employment lawyer who enjoys taking ownership, working closely with clients and colleagues, and contributing to the development of the practice. The role is best suited for a lawyer with approximately 5–6 years of relevant experience, although we are open to considering candidates with at least 3 years of strong employment law experience.

About you

We are looking for a lawyer with a solid theoretical understanding of employment law and the ability to apply that knowledge in a practical, solution-oriented way.

The ideal candidate has experience advising employers on a wide range of employment law matters and is ready to take an active role in client work, matter management and business development.

You may already be able to manage complex legal matters independently, or you may be at a stage where you are ready to take the next step towards becoming a trusted advisor.

We particularly value:

  • At least 3 years of relevant employment law experience, preferably closer to 5–6 years.
  • Strong knowledge of Finnish employment law and a genuine interest in developing deep expertise in the field.
  • A proactive, energetic and hands-on attitude.
  • The ability to work independently while also collaborating closely within a team.
  • A strong client service mindset and the ability to understand clients’ business needs.
  • Full professional proficiency in both Finnish and English.
  • Interest in, or experience with, equality, non-discrimination, pay transparency and other increasingly important regulatory employment topics.
  • Interest in litigation and dispute resolution, and willingness to develop further experience in employment-related court proceedings.
  • A Finnish Attorney-at-Law background is welcome but not required.

Main duties and responsibilities

Your work will cover the full employment lifecycle, including day-to-day advisory work, employment disputes, restructurings, employment aspects of transactions, employment data privacy and other strategic people-related matters.

You will advise employers on both domestic and cross-border matters and work as part of a team that serves Finnish and international clients. Depending on your experience, you will take responsibility for your own workstreams, manage client relationships, contribute to complex assignments and support the continued development of the Employment practice.

We are looking for a colleague who wants to be close to the client, understand the commercial context, drive matters forward and be part of building the practice.

What we offer

International environment. At DLA Piper, you will work in an international environment with access to a global network of colleagues and significant international client assignments. DLA Piper has a strong presence in more than 40 countries and is the only global law firm with a pan-Nordic presence.

Room to grow and influence. You will have genuine opportunities to expand your expertise, take ownership of projects, manage client relationships and develop as an employment law professional. We are committed to supporting your professional growth and giving you room to influence your own development and the development of the team.

Strong culture and values. Our culture is built around strong values: be supportive, be collaborative, be bold and be exceptional. We aim to build an inclusive and supportive culture where everyone has the opportunity to do their best work and feel a sense of belonging.

Next steps

If this sounds like the right next step for you, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please submit your application as soon as possible, as we may start meeting suitable candidates during the application period.
